Saturday, 4:30 AM. 30 minutes before the start, Adam makes last minute adjustments to the lights on his handlebars. The first several hours of the race would be raced in darkness.

Saturday, 5:00AM. Adam sets off.

Adam continues his fast pace as he rides east towards Mt Palomar.

At around 2 hours into the race, Adam makes it to Mt Palomar for a steep climb.

At approximately 2:00 PM, Adam is already on the east side of the Salton Sea. At this point, he has already completed 160 miles.

Palm Tree farms. Adam has already been on his bicycle for more than 10 hours.

There is a support vehicle that follows Adam throughout the course. If Adam needs to make any changes to his gear, or if he has a mechanical problem with one of his bikes, the crew can fix the problems quickly without losing too much time. Here, the team swapped a front wheel that developed a flat tire.

5:43PM. Adam is now heading back east towards San Diego.

7:00 PM Sunset. The race started at 5:00 AM that morning, meaning that at this point, Adam had been riding for 14 hours straight.

Adam continued to ride through the night with the temperature dropping to around 35°F.

Sunday, 4:19AM. Adam crosses the finish line, setting a new solo course record in just under 23 hours and 20 minutes.

400 miles, 23 hours and 20 minutes later, Adam still finds the energy to smile.
